Over the last six or so years, we have been involved in recording, restoring and archiving various Buddhist teachings, and providing audio solutions to various monasteries and Dharma Centres in the UK, Europe and India. We offer a gratis service to any Buddhist institution, Dharma Centre or monastery anywhere in the world that requires help with sound reinforcement, recording Dharma teachings, and transferring and restoring archived Dharma recordings from old recording mediums (such as tape, Mini-Disc, etc.) to modern digital formats for archival and distribution purposes.
Audio Solutions for Dharma Institutions
Our first job was acting as an audio engineer at Kagyu Thekchen Ling monastery and retreat centre in Lava, Darjeeling, northern India back in 2019. Here we rewired several microphone cables that were no longer working, and trained some of the monks about how to use the mixing console and repair any broken wires using the appropriate cable schematics for each application, as well as aquatinting them with good soldering practice. We were also asked to design and install a new sound reinforcement system there.

1) Assessing the acoustics and speaker system of the main hall at Kagyu Thekchen Ling monastery in Northern India in 2019, as well as investigating where in the solid concrete room space interference occurred with the wireless microphone body packs.

2) Managing and training the monks to use the mixing console and how to solder microphone cables, etc. at Kagyu Thekchen Ling monastery in Northern India, 2019

3) Assessing whether or not the old shrine room needed a sound reinforcement system at Kagyu Thekchen Ling in 2019.
Over the last three years we have particularly been working with Dashang Kagyu Ling monastery in La Boulaye, France, trouble-shooting issues with sound reinforcement equipment, as well as recording Buddhist teachings held there, and then returning the mixed recordings to the monastery with embedded meta-data for archival and distribution purposes.

1) Monastics performing the Green Tara Puja in the main temple at Dashang Kagyu Ling monastery in 2022.

2) The Shangpa Wang Empowerments held in the main temple at Dashang Kagyu Ling monastery in 2022.

3) Operating the front of house desk during teachings at Dashang Kagyu Ling monastery in 2024.
Recently we started work with the Jamyang London Buddhist Centre in Elephant & Castle. They have an extensive back catalogue of Dharma teachings spanning nearly 40 years, all of which were recorded on to cassette tape. Some of these precious recordings have unfortunately degraded over time and/or the cassette tapes on which they are being stored have become “sticky”, and so need to be treated and repaired. Some recordings were not made using proper reference levels and so are distorted and lack intelligibility. We are currently working through some of their archival recordings to restore them as best we can to maximise intelligibility and preserve the teachings for future distribution and archival.

1) Rewiring some of the audio channels to the front of house mixing console at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre in Elephant & Castle, London 2025.

2) Inspecting the Fet Head being used to increase the amplitude of a microphone at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre, 2024.

3) The Buddha statue in the main temple at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre in Elephant & Castle, 2024.
